One of the things I most love about our new flat (other than the double glazing and lack of mice), is our balcony. Actually, we have two balconies - one is just a tiny wee thing next to the office, perfect for stepping out for a tea break in the sun while you’re working. But the other is quite sizeable, conveniently accessible via both the kitchen and the bedroom, and I’m really looking forward to spending as much of the summer on it as possible. But first it needs a bit of a makeover. Here’s what it looked like when we moved in:

Now that the weather seems to have decided to stick with Spring, it was time to start ‘Project Balcony’. Earlier in the week we visited a garden centre and bought a bunch of flower pots, seeds, plants, and earth. Things have been a bit busy since then (when are they ever not), but yesterday I set up the flower pots, planted the herbs, and set up a shelf we’d bought at everyone’s favourite Swedish furniture store.

So, that’s what the balcony is looking like at the moment. I’ll keep you updated on the progress of ‘Project Balcony’, and if any of you are giving your balcony a makeover or have some great ideas and tips to share, I’d love to hear about them.
